RAMAKIAN
THE THAI-VERSION RAMAYANA

Ramayana is one of the Indian greatest epics written by Valmiki some 2000 years ago. The epic specifically relates to the incarnation of god Vishnu. By the Indian cultural influences in the ancient times, Ramayana epic spreaded all over Southeast Asia region. Many countries in this region, such as Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia, adopted Ramayana epic and adapted it to their own cultural way. Thailand adopted Ramayana epic many hundred years ago. Thai-version Ramayana called Ramakian. It's the tale of war between prince Rama or Phra Ram of Ayuthaya and demon Tosakan of Langka who has 10 heads and 20 hands. Such the war is ignited by Tosakan who abducts the beautiful wife of Phra Ram, Sita. Phra Ram and his mighty monkey warrior Hanuman leads the army to conquer Tosakan and get Sita back. Phra Ram is the incarnation of god Vishnu while Tosakan is the reincarnation of Nondhok, the arrogant and unconquerable demon on the heaven. As on the prelude of Ramakian, god Vishnu incarnates in the earth as Phra Ram by the wish of god Siva to pursue and suppress the reincarnated demon Tosakan.
